Shoot Them Bugs: Jam Postmortem

Making the entry for the Gamedev.tv game jam was a wild weekend. Unfortunately, I was only able to utilise roughly 1-2 out of the 10 days to get it to where it is now. During that time, I reworked an old unity fps template to become a wave-based shooter.

Thank you to everyone who gave it a whirl-shame about the mouse controls. It's one of those cases of "it works fine on my machine".  My main focus was on getting it to work on a controller, so it was a complete oversight on my part. I end up submitting four hours before the jam ended, only to realise I had mistyped the name Shoot Them Bugs...

In the coming weeks, I hope to give it the love it truly deserves and to fix the mouse problems. Lately, I've been working on fleshing out the map-behold the before and after of the Picnic table Map.

New Map Design
Update Map Design. Map is going to be on a picnic table.

I finished the 3D modelling and UVs. I'm going to start texturing, so it's going to be an interesting week before the Switch2 release, haha.  If you are wondering what the hell is in the box,  it's going to be a Detroit pizza. Maybe not as loaded from the video below.

My End goal is to make it a first person Tower Defence, heavily inspired by Dungeon Defenders. What I'm hoping to get done for this prototype stage:

  • Picnic Table Map.
  • Player to be a Hero like DD.
  • Tower Building Mechanics, abilities to spam.
  • Weapons.
  • Better Enemies.

Thank you for reading.
